Can you heal on a timeframe?

Another day, another adventure in this beautiful country! I have just spent the weekend at Pisac in the sacred valley. We had a gorgeous hotel, surrounded by the mountains which is always my happy place.

Yesterday we went to a waterfall for a water healing ceremony. It was a reminder again that ceremony can happen anywhere, it's your intention which is important. The shaman talked about opening our souls to become cleansed by the water, allowing our problems to be washed away and filled with healing and light.

The reality for me however, was sitting on uncomfortable rocks for an hour while 35 people queued to be prayed over and splashed with water (careful not to swallow) in a ceremony lasting just over 1min! Although the intention from our shaman was pure, I found it hard to drop in.

Some people did find this powerful and healing, however for me it felt a little hollow. The experience was good, but there was no real time or context to think about the meaning, or absorb the experience before it was all over.

This being our 4th(?) ceremony in as many days, there is little time to process or reflect. And while I'm sure my subconscious is taking it all in, it's hard to organise my conscious thoughts around it all. Maybe I don't need to, though it makes sharing my thoughts here or in my journal a bit tricky!

What I did find yesterday, was my own feeling of deep personal peace and connection with nature, after my ceremony. I stood in the freezing water and tried to find a minute of comfort. I sat in the sun, gazing down river with only the sound of rushing water and ceremonial bells. That sense of deep connection with nature was a gift, and something I hope to create more often at home.

The shaman also shared a secret healing ritual using water and stones they use to help people who are sick and injured. I feel very honoured to be trusted with their ways, and their conviction in natural healing is incredibly strong.

So while I don't think I can always work at their timeline, I know my own soul work is happening throughout this whole trip and that's ok.

Into the heart of the mystic

The last time first time I said "yes" to a big trip was in 2012 and I had just started work as a chiropractor in a new city where I didn't have any friends. Perhaps that's why I accepted the invitation of one of my clients to climb Kilimanjaro!  We raised a sum for charity and set off to Africa for three weeks in August 2012 just a handful of weeks after my mum had suddenly passed from stomach cancer. Looking back, I was young, in shock and emotionally shut down. I took some of mum's ashes with me and sprinkled them at the glacier at the summit. I recall wondering  if I would ever go back to visit that part of her again.  Since then, I've had many more deep and meaningful shifts in my life. I made it to Peru

After our disastrous failed attempt to make it on our summer holidays this year, I am delighted the travel gods were smiling on my trip to Peru, everything was smooth and as easy as travelling for 36 hours non stop can be! Today I arrived in Cusco and it feels very surreal. That could be the effects of jet lag and altitude sickness, both of which I can feel in my body as I write this sipping my cacao leaf tea. I wanted to send a short message that I'm here, and also share a photo on day #1. I met a man at a workshop who told me he always takes photos of people on the first and last day of these trips because he is always amazed by the change he sees. So let's see if that's true! I am excited to share the next few weeks with you (probably not daily, but when I have something to share). In the west we have idea that people are "broken" and we need putting back together.
